The CDBS works on a two-year cycle. Each eligible child receives up to $1,158 (2026 cap, indexed yearly on 1 January) across that period. You can use the full amount in the first year or spread it across both.

The CDBS is an Australian Government program that provides eligible children with a capped benefit for essential dental services — helping promote preventive care and good oral health.
Children aged 0–17 who are eligible for Medicare and part of a family receiving certain government payments, like Family Tax Benefit Part A, may qualify. Eligibility is assessed at the start of each calendar year.
When we bulk-bill, your child pays nothing out-of-pocket for covered services up to their available CDBS cap. We claim the benefit directly from Medicare — no gap, no co-payment and no claim forms for you.
It covers exams, cleans, X-rays, fissure sealants, fillings, root canals, extractions and some partial dentures — with certain limits over a two-year cycle. It does not cover orthodontics, cosmetic work or hospital dentistry.
Up to $1,158 per eligible child (2026 cap, indexed yearly) over a two-year cycle. You can use the full amount in the first year or spread it across both — but any unused balance doesn't carry over after the cycle ends.
